Statement: As an art teacher, it isn't always easy to make time for yourself, hence the subject matter and the use of some of my favorite media. My self-portrait embodies what it feels like to be an artist: organized chaos! I chose to create a "mess" with my materials, using a variety of tools for my mark-making, while remaining deliberate in my application. So many layers and trial and error went into this piece. I had to remind myself to "trust the process," which is a great reminder in art and in life.
