Cribbage, Crayons, and Conversation
Mixed media: Acrylic, thick-bodied acrylic, prismacolor pencils
Dimensions: 16 x 20 inches
Statement: This artwork captures the soul of a family gathering, not through the perfect presentation upon arrival, but the delightful disarray that develops after the feast.
Created with acrylic paints and colored pencils, this piece centers on a paper-wrapped folding-table alongside our homemade dinner table. This shared tablescape is a setting for friendly competition, casual sketches, and lively conversation.
The paper tablecloth transforms into a shared canvas filled with doodles and games of tic-tac-toe. The game of cribbage serves as a focal point, mirroring traditions of companionship that span generations. While slightly out of frame, the mothers of the family demonstrate communication on the sidelines.
My goal is for the viewer to make meaning from this mess. This piece is a tribute to imperfections through overlapping conversations, mismatched chairs, and unfinished drawings. Chaos creates cherished memories and the table represents the space where we gather.
